Vaginal Muscle Tightening/Labia Reshaping
This increasingly common procedure involves reshaping the inner and outer lips of the vagina.
Why? Some women have excessive skin tissue around the genital area, in other women the muscles have slackened because of childbirth. Sports like horse riding can also have an effect.
This is the fourth most requested female surgery in the UK. It can be carried out under either local or general anaesthetic and involves tightening the muscles or simply removing excess skin. We perform vaginal reshaping and labia reduction in Sussex and we work with both a male and female surgeon who are very empathetic and get fantastic results. Just ask if you'd like to see customer testimonials.
Who is it suitable for?
This is suitable for women from the age of 18 up to post-menopausal age who may have experienced a slackness in muscle and skin. There are also women who are genetically born with excess inner or outer lips.
What can I expect?
Vaginaplasty (muscle tightening)
For those women who have lost their muscles following childbirth, the operation is usually under general anaesthetic as a day case. This operation tightens the muscles which can improve women's sex lives and assist with incontinence issues.
Labiaplasty (genital reshaping)
For women who do not like the appearance of their vaginal lips (labia), the inner or outer lips may be trimmed to a desired and realistic shape which is agreed after a comprehensive consultation with the surgeon.
Possible Risks and Side Effects
Infection
You will be given antibiotics to take following either operation, and you will be advised to shower and bath to prevent an infection. Personal hygiene is key to preventing infection.
Bruising, swelling and discomfort
This operation does result in quite a lot of swelling due to the nature of the soft tissue involved. The swelling should subside in the first 2 weeks. You will be advised to take Arnica tablets and regular Paracetamol to alleviate any discomfort.
Bleeding
Following this procedure you may experience some light bleeding. This is normal; just wear sanitary pads.
Recovery
We advise you to take a week off work following the operation. Wear loose clothing and avoid any strenuous activity. You should not have any penetrative sex for 4-6 weeks. You must not use tampons for 4 weeks.
Success Rate
This has been an embarrassing problem for many women who thought until recent years that there wasn't a solution. However, with the ‘designer vagina' programme and more publicity many more women are now requesting these procedures. It's extremely successful and improves women's self-confidence and sex lives enormously.
