Botulinum Toxin

The science bit

What Is Botox?

Botox is a highly purified toxin that can temporarily erase or reduce facial wrinkles, by temporarily relaxing the facial muscles. It’s made from a purified version of the neurotoxin botulinum toxin, made by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. We administer Neurobloc Botox (Type B) for clients who are resistant to Botulinum Toxin (Type A). Other brands certified in the medical and cosmetic field include Azzulure, Bocouture, Dysport, Vistabel and Xeomin, and we’ll discuss which is the best for you during your consultation.

Who Is Botox Suitable For?

This treatment is suitable for both men and women over the age of 18. Please bear in mind we can’t treat pregnant ladies, nursing mothers, or people with muscle-wasting conditions.

What Can I Expect from Botox?

The Botox process itself is quite simple. We give the affected areas a small Botox injection. It doesn’t hurt, but some people feel mild discomfort. Sometimes the injection can cause a slight circular swelling where you’ve been treated, which will disappear within a few hours.

How Quickly Will I See the Effects?

You can expect good results after a just one Botox session. It usually takes about five days for the results to start to show, and two weeks to reach the maximum effect. You will need to come back for a review at the clinic after two weeks.

Frequently Asked Questions

How Long Do the Effects of Botox Last?
The results last from three to six months, depending on the individual.
What Areas Can You Treat with Botox?
The ideal areas for Botox treatment are the deep creases between the eyebrows, ‘crows’ feet’, ‘bunny lines’ on the nose, and forehead frown lines. We can use advanced Botox techniques on the lower areas of the face and neck, softening the neckline and producing a lifting effect. We can also use advanced Botox techniques to treat migraine and also excessive sweating – Hyperhidrosis – on the face and parts of the body including the underarms, hands and feet.
What Are the Risks and Side Effects of Botox?
n rare circumstances, when we’re treating your eye area, you might experience some drooping of the eyelid and some weakening of the surrounding muscles of the area treated. These are temporary problems and will correct themselves as the Botox wears off. You might experience a small bruise, but you’ll be able to cover it easily with a concealer.
What is the Recovery Time from Botox?
Most people can return to work immediately, but we recommend you avoid excessive exercise for 48 hours after your treatment.
What Are the Alternatives to Botox?
In some cases, dermal fillers can also help lift lines, and skin resurfacing treatments like Fractora can soften the lines. For deeper lines, Laser Skin Resurfacing may be your best choice. We’ll help you make the best decision.
How Will I Feel?
Botox delivers dramatic change to tired faces, especially the eye area and forehead. One moment you’re looking lined and wrinkled and weary, the next moment many of those fine lines have been relaxed away, leaving you looking fresher and younger and happier. And as we all know, feeling fresh and young makes you feel marvellous!
