Permanent Make Up

The science bit

Often referred to as semi-permanent makeup or tattooed makeup, permanent makeup is the art of embedding ink into the dermis layer of your skin to resemble freshly applied makeup. The magic of this treatment is its ability to withstand the test of time and persist through various factors such as aging, lifestyle, skincare routine, and immune response. While it's true that the ink will fade over time, the aesthetic effects of permanent makeup are lasting, promising a beauty solution that never fades away.

Permanent Makeup Techniques

Permanent makeup isn't one-size-fits-all. At A New You, we take pride in our personalised approach to meet the unique needs and aesthetic goals of each client. Guided by the expert hand of our resident permanent makeup artist, Jemma Jarman, we utilise a range of techniques and tools to help you achieve your desired look.

Microblading is one such method, ideal for creating hair simulation specifically for eyebrows. This technique, carried out with a hand tool rather than a machine, can effectively replicate missing or sparse hair, add colour density, or modify the width and height of your brows.

For procedures such as powder-shaded brows (resulting in an ombre or combination brows look), permanent lip colour/blushing, lip contouring, or lip liner and fine or bold eyeliner, we employ a tattoo machine.

Whether you're looking to enhance your brows, lips, or eyes, Jemma's advanced knowledge and skillful artistry ensure pristine results tailored specifically to you.

Variable Factors that Affect Permanent Makeup

The longevity and appearance of permanent makeup can be affected by:

- Age
- Speed of skin rejuvenation
- Lifestyle (including outdoor activities exposed to sun and other elements)
- Skincare routine and beauty treatments
- Immune response and/or medications

Treatment Process

Your first appointment will take approximately 2 hours. During this session, we focus on creating a shape that is unique to you, one that is timeless and aligns perfectly with the contours of your face. Once the treatment commences, it takes between 60 - 90 mins. Six to eight weeks later, a follow-up session is conducted to tweak and perfect the colour and shape if necessary.

Our Most Popular Permanent Makeup Treatments

Eyebrows: Our eyebrow treatments include Microblading and Tattoo Machine techniques to create a look that enhances your face's natural shape and features.

Eyeliner: We create a fine liner at the base of the lashes resulting in a subtle but effective method to make lashes appear fuller, creating an eye-opening style. Different thickness eye liners can be created with a small flick detail in the outer corner of the eye if desired.

Lips: Lip contouring, lip liner correction, and full lip blush artistry are fast becoming as popular as eyebrow and eyeliner requests. Many are seeking alternative ways to enhance and add volume to lips without injections.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the treatment safe?
Yes, the treatment is safe. The pigments used are hypoallergenic and have never caused an allergic reaction in the products’ history. However, for added safety, we perform a patch test before every treatment. This can either be done at the clinic during the consultation or sent to you in the post. All of our equipment is sterile and our instruments are disposable to ensure maximum safety.
How long does the pigment remain in the skin?
The pigment can last anywhere from one year to indefinitely, depending on several factors. Influential factors include your age and lifestyle, which directly correlate with how quickly your skin rejuvenates and causes the pigment to fade. Exposure to elements, especially the sun, can also accelerate the fading of the pigment.
When will I need the treatment done again?
The pigment typically fades between a one to two-year period. Like many beauty treatments, once you can see and appreciate the difference the treatment has made to your appearance, you might want to have a colour boosting treatment every one to two years. The price is reduced if a top-up treatment is performed within one year.
How will I look immediately after the procedure?
Post-treatment, the skin can be a little sore and mildly tender, although this quickly subsides. Clients often say they feel as if their makeup is particularly bold in the treatment area for the following 5 days. This is to be expected and will always heal significantly less vibrant once completely healed.
Will my eyebrows be shaved for microblading or powdered brows?
No, you don't have to shave your eyebrows off. We map out the shape based on your facial structure, current brows and aim to improve the symmetry of your face. Only unwanted hairs outside of the design will be removed.
What is the difference between semi-permanent and permanent make up?
There is no difference. Permanent makeup and semi-permanent makeup both refer to the same thing; pigment placed just beneath the dermis (upper layer of the skin).
Is semi-permanent make up the same as a tattoo?
Yes, it is. Permanent makeup, semi-permanent makeup, cosmetic tattooing and micropigmentation are all names or different terminology for the same thing.
How long does permanent eyeliner last?
Most eyeliner tattoos last between 12 and 24 months, however, a touch up or colour boost is recommended after 12 months.
