Umbilicoplasty is a surgical procedure designed to modify and improve the appearance of the belly button. Clients come to us because their belly button sticks out, is unusually large, or includes unsightly extra skin. Your navel may have changed shape or become enlarged because of weight loss. It might have become herniated through childbirth. You might even have lost your navel altogether because of surgery or an injury.
We can perform this surgery as a day case under local anaesthetic. If you’re also having a tummy tuck at the same time, you will need a general anaesthetic. Then we either re-shape your navel or reposition it to create a more pleasing aesthetic result.
If you simply have a belly button correction there is very little recovery time, but we do apply a small dressing. Your stitches will be removed after 7-10 days, and we recommend avoiding strenuous activities like sports or swimming for at least two weeks, maybe as long as four weeks.
The effects of the surgery last a long time, but sometimes your belly button may need some slight adjustments, something that’s common with all types of surgery.
