Platelet-Rich Fibrin (PRF) therapy is a technique that utilises the body's growth factors and blood cells to treat areas of concern like stretch marks, scars and wounds that need to heal. It encourages the repair and regeneration of the skin.
PRF uses similar techniques to the more well known PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) but is a newer, more advanced treatment that provides better results.
PRF has three times the level of growth factors compared to PRP. The protein ‘fibrin’ used in PRF - not present in PRP - allows the growth factors and platelets to be released slowly over seven to ten days, whereas PRP releases them all in one day.
• Soften fine lines
• Improved skin texture
• Reduced redness
• Reversed photo damage
• Target melasma
• Halt and reverse hair loss in both male-pattern baldness and thinning in female hair with age
• Stimulate fibroblasts to produce more collagen, thus plumping and thickening skin
• Lighten of dark under-eye circles
• There is currently limited evidence - due to its new arrival on the scene - for the efficacy of PRF in scarring and stretch marks. However there is plenty of evidence for the effect of PRP and so it seems fair to assume benefits from PRF also.
PRP has been scientifically proven to improve scars and stretch marks. Because PRF is newer, there is less evidence. However, because the science is essentially the same it would make sense that PRF will also provide these benefits.
PRF involves extracting platelets from a sample of your own blood. The first stage of the treatment involves taking a small sample, which we place in a centrifuge, a machine with a rapidly rotating container that uses the force of gravity to its content) to spin and separate red blood cells from platelet-rich fibrin.
Using a very fine needle, the platelet-rich fibrin is then injected back into the area of concern. There, your own platelets release growth factors triggering the surrounding cells to proliferate, stimulating repair and regeneration.
We can give injections multiple times in multiple locations to give you an overall improvement to the area.
Because this treatment uses your own natural platelets, there is no chance of rejection. We spin your blood inside a closed sterile system with no risk of contamination. The system is widely used in major teaching hospitals to treat burns and for speedier wound repair.
